Dinosaurs Alive & There’s a Dream in My Closet
Dinosaurs Alive ::: Where the Wild Things Are!
Dig for dinosaur bones in the sand like a real paleontologist! Discover a dinosaur skeleton, and put the pieces back together with a little help from the Wonder Kids staff! Use clues to figure out how she looked, moved and ate. Make your own fossils, and build a kid-sized dinosaur land to play in that looks just like Jurassic times! On Friday, make a dinosaur mask and build a real working volcano. Then dress up like your favorite dinosaurs and BOOM! - Let the wild dinosaur rumpus begin! (Take home your dinosaur skeleton, mask, fossils, and volcano!)
There’s a Dream in My Closet ::: Castle in the Sky
Did you ever have such a good dream that you wished it were real? Maybe you could fly, or an all-powerful genie granted every wish? Bring your dreams to life by turning them into real art projects that you can see and touch - with the help of some great Surrealist artists! Build a carnival of colorful, wiggly creatures in the style of Joan Miro, and use Max Ernst’s sculptures as an inspiration to sculpt creative “assemblages” from everyday junk. Paint a Rene Magritte-like impossible dream. And use Meret Oppenheim’s Breakfast in Fur as an inspiration to make surprising fantasy food from everyday objects -- like shoelace spaghetti and beaded meatballs!
Magicians Outdoor Program ::: Team Discovery
Play team-building and skill-building games every day! Carry the giant Wonder Ball as a group, and make new friends with name games. The Wonder Kids monkey wants to teach you new arts and crafts too! Choose from lots of different Klutz Chicken Sox activities, like Foam Gliders, Shadow Games and Melty Beads. Monkey Tag will get you running and laughing. On Friday, go on a mystery scavenger hunt or play Splashball!
June 23-27
Magic Toy Shop & Tricky Pix
Magic Toy Shop ::: Toy Parade
Have you ever loved a toy so much that you wished it would come alive and play with you? The Wonder Kids flying monkey will teach you some simple ways to make a toy move or “come alive.” He’ll show you how to make an action figure or doll with moving parts, a spring-powered car and racetrack, a pop-up jack-in-the-box and a silly hand-crank powered toy! Pick your favorite creation to join you in the Wonder Kids Toy Parade on Friday! Learn about the science of pushes and pulls, joints, cranks, springs, gravity and friction.
Tricky Pix ::: Superhero Pictures
Would you like to make a picture of yourself as a superhero or magic princess? Let the Wonder Kids monkey show you how to do it with trick photography, or “tricky pix!” Build a simple pinhole camera to learn how cameras work, and then let a digital camera show the world your super powers! Make a picture of yourself flying through the air and swimming underwater like a mermaid. With tricky pix, you’ll also climb the tallest tower, and juggle 10 toys at the same time! Multiply yourself to play every instrument in a band! You will also learn how to use Adobe Photoshop, and take home a photo album showing all your super powers!

Make a cardboard house that you can really play in. Build the tallest tower for flying kites, and a bridge for sliding marbles! Create a swing to get the Wonder Kids monkey from house to house! You’ll learn about shapes, 2-D and 3-D construction and load as you become a master builder.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who makes the trickiest toys of all? You do! Come to the Wonder Kids art studio and learn how to make toys that surprise your eyes. Fly with your friends in an anti-gravity mirror. Make a giant kaleidoscope that you can climb inside, and create hand-held kaleidoscopes to take home. Lights! Camera! Laughter! & Cartoon Click
Lights! Camera! Laughter! ::: Fairy Tale Movie Studio
You work for the Fairy Tale Movie Studio, and your job is to make a “mixed-up” fairy tale movie! Maybe Cinderella never lost her slipper? Or the dragon really wanted to be the prince’s pet? You decide! Then you and your team will make your own storyboard and script (with a little help from our staff), and act in your own movie! On Friday, walk the red carpet to accept your Wonder Kids Academy Award! (Note: Wonder Kids DVDs of fully-edited 2008 camp movies will be sent home in early fall).
Cartoon Click ::: Moving Pictures
Do you like to watch cartoons? Would you like to make your own? Join us in the Wonder Kids art studio, as we look at some popular TV cartoon characters, and discover what we like best about them. Then the Wonder Kids staff will help YOU paint, draw and color your very own cartoon character! Give your character a name, and we will show you how to put it into the computer and make it come to life! Make your character dance, fly or transform. Create scenery and tell a story too. On Friday, we’ll watch our cartoons on Wonder Kids TV. That’s all folks!

To Fly! & Music in the Air
To Fly! ::: Up, Up and Away!
The Wonder Kids monkey really wants to learn how to fly. He’s been jumping in the air with his cape on – but it’s just not working! Please help him to fly! Make a paper airplane for the monkey, and see how far he can go. Then send the monkey soaring on a water-bottle rocket ride. If the monkey wants to fly further, then try sending him up on a kite ride! Find a way to land the monkey safely with a parachute too. On Friday, the monkey will throw a paper airplane party to celebrate his flying lessons. Learn about the science of flight, as well as a few big words like “resistance,” “drag” and “lift.”.
Music in the Air ::: Kitchen Band
When you were little, did you like to make music with pots and pans? Take your musical kitchen experiments to a whole new level by making real musical instruments with stuff that you find in your kitchen! Build a water bottle xylophone, PVC panpipes, a balloon banjo and a very large drum section from assorted materials! Believe it or not, you can really play a musical scale on these instruments. Learn how to create musical notes by measuring out water, tube length and string length. Then get ready for the camp-wide concert on Friday, as we jam on some popular camp songs with our instruments!

What’s the Big Idea? ::: Picasso’s Birthday Party
You’re invited to Pablo Picasso’s birthday party! Since Picasso loves to make old junk into creative art works (and he once even turned an old toy car into a baboon face), we’ll make some crazy birthday hats from recycled objects. Abstract artist Georgia O’Keefe will help us make some gorgeous giant flowers for the birthday table. And Alexander Calder will show us how to make colorful abstract sculptures called “stabiles” to give as presents! At the party, we’ll swoosh, spatter and smear paint on canvas with everything except a paintbrush, in the style of Arshile Gorky. Happy Birthday!

Vroom! Vroom! Build a race track all the way across the Wonder Kids science studio, and then make your own monster cars! Create a rubber band car, a pinewood derby racer, and a balloon car. Decorate your cars and put them to the test? Which car will be the fastest? How can you make it even faster? Now add your pouf ball drivers, and start your engines. On Friday, choose your best car to enter the great camp-wide race! Discover how axles and wheels work. Get to know science concepts like speed, acceleration, friction and air resistance. Good luck!
Castle Mystery ::: Princess and Knights

Make a stained-glass design for the windows and a crest, or coat of arms, to decorate a shield. Create a flag to fly from the turret. Robotics & Sun Painting!
Robotics ::: The Robots Are Coming
The Wonder Kids monkey got into the supply closet and played with the Lego Mindstorms Robots. Their parts are in the wrong places and they’re bumping into walls. Help put the Lego Mindstorms Robots back together, and get their wheels and axles moving the right way again. Then program your robot to follow simple commands so that it can complete the robot obstacle course on Friday. Use very simple visual, click-and-drag software to program your robot to go forwards and backwards, and left and right. Good luck!
Sun Painting ::: Glorious, Gooey Paint
The Wonder Kids monkey wants to tell you how he feels, but he can’t talk! So he has invited some famous Expressionist artists to camp to help him show you he feels through art. Together, you’ll make a drip-painting with Expressionist artist Jackson Pollock and drip paint all over a giant canvas while you’re still standing right in the middle of it! (Serious protective overalls supplied). Willem de Kooning will help you paint with everything but a paintbrush, as you smear, scrape and sponge gooey, glorious paint to make interesting shapes and textures. Fly through a starry night with van Gogh, and make moody skies with lively lines using a “color swoosh” technique. “Mask Believe” with Ernest Ludwig Kirchner, and make colorful, funny-face papier mache masks. Learn how to show feelings in art that are hard to put into words. What was the monkey trying to say?!
