DINOSAURS ALIVE & THERE’S A DREAM IN MY CLOSET
Dinosaurs Alive ::: Jurassic Park
You work for Jurassic Park! Put on your paleontologist (pay-lee-on-TALL-uh-jist) hat, and start digging for dinosaur bones! One day, you find a fossilized egg and hatch it! Now you can find out what dinosaurs really looked like! Discover what colors they were, and if they had -- feathers?!! Figure out how your baby dinosaur will move and eat when it grows up, and then build it a new zoo home that will meet all of its needs! Make your own fossils and build a working volcano too. Learn about the science of paleontology.
There’s a Dream in My Closet ::: The “Me” of My Dreams
Can you fly in your dreams, or do you have an imaginary friend or pet? Bring your dreams to life by making them into art projects that you can see and touch, with the help of some great Surrealist artists! Paint yourself with an impossible power, like Rene Magritte’s floating rock castle! Would you like to be in two of your favorite places at the same time? Make a collage of yourself in two places, in the style of Frida Kahlo. Bring the creatures of your imagination to life from brightly colored “frottage,” or rubbing patterns, in the style of Max Ernst. Put together a vibrant Meret Oppenheim-like Mystery Box that says something mysterious or silly about you! On Friday, come to the grand opening of the “Me” of My Dreams Art Gallery.

Magic Toy Shop ::: Magic Toys Come to Life
The Magic Toy Shop closes for the night, and the Wonder Kids monkey is locked inside! When the lights go down, the toys come to life! After the monkey gets back to camp, he’ll teach you how to make your own collection of moving toys that “come to life” too: Create your own action figure or doll with moving joints, a spring-powered car with loop-the-loop racetrack, and a pop-up jack-in-the-box! Make a crazy puppet with moveable part which dances when you pull its string. Learn about the science of pushes and pulls, joints, cranks, springs, string-operated puppets, gravity and friction.
Tricky Pix ::: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!
Would you like to “shrink” yourself and your friends? Swim in a cereal bowl, or ride on the nose of a dog?! Let the Wonder Kids monkey show you how with trick photography, or “tricky pix!” Build a giant pinhole camera to learn how cameras work, and then take some crazy trick pictures of your own with our digital camera! Shrink your friends and hold them in the palm of your hands! Shrink yourself so that you can climb up on top of your favorite toy! Dance on top of a giant sneaker or iPod! Make a book of crazy mixed-up people pictures, and a photo album to record your shrinking experiments! You will also learn how to use Adobe Photoshop to put the final touch on your pictures.

Future World ::: Building Strong
Will your team be chosen to build the city of the future? To try out, create the tallest tower and a colorful kid-size house. Build the strongest bridge and a geodesic dome! You’ll learn about two- and three-dimensional shapes, how to make structures strong, forces such as compression, tension, and load, and why frames are important. Let’s get building!
Now You See It, Now You Don’t ::: Fun House Mirrors
Use the power of mirrors to create an amazing fun house! Build a “mirror, mirror” machine, and see what your face looks like when you mix it up with your friend’s face! Amaze your friends with incredible toys that trick the eyes. Create a giant kaleidoscope that you can climb inside! Learn about the science of light, reflection, refraction, angles and optical illusions. Can you find your way out of the fun house?

Lights! Camera! Laughter! ::: Funny Movie
You work for Comedy Central, and your job is to make America’s newest “Funny Movie.” Brainstorm with your team to create an original plot, storyboard and script. Then direct, act in and edit your own movie – and it’s Lights! Camera! Laughter! Walk down the red carpet on Friday to accept your Wonder Kids Academy Award for best comedy. Learn about the science of how your eyes “see” movies. Use Moviemaker software to add titles, transitions and special effects to your film clip.
Cartoon Click ::: Make Your Own Cartoon!
Your favorite TV cartoon character needs a friend! (Maybe you like Sponge Bob, Ang or the Little Mermaid – whoever - you decide!) Create a new friend for your favorite cartoon character with the help of a computer, and then bring it to life with animation software. Come up with a great story, and then put your new character into it. Add colorful background and fast-paced action. Then sit back and watch your very own cartoon! That’s all folks!

To Fly! ::: Fly the Monkey Off the Island
The Wonder Kids Monkey is stranded on a desert island! Invent a way for him to fly back to camp! Show him how to take a fast flight home with soda bottle rockets. If that doesn’t work, send him soaring on a paper airplane. Try again by flying him on a kite, and drop him with a parachute too! When the tired monkey gets back to camp, celebrate with the great camp-wide paper airplane contest. Learn about fluids, air pressure, drag, lift and Bernouilli.
Music in the Air ::: Garage Band
Take the garage band to a whole new level by making music with stuff you can find in your garage! Build a water bottle xylophone, PVC panpipes, a balloon banjo and a very large drum section from assorted materials! Believe it or not, you can really play a musical scale on these instruments. Learn how to create musical notes by measuring out water, tube length and string length. Then get ready for the camp-wide concert on Friday, as we jam on some popular camp songs all together!

CONTRAPTION LAND & WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?! (ABSTRACT ART)
Contraption Land ::: Lab Rat Trouble!
The Wonder Kids monkey has many powers, but he needs your help! The sneaky lab rats are causing trouble all over camp, and you must invent some clever contraptions to stop them. The lab rats have spilled monkey food all over the floor. Can you invent a “spoon-a-pult” to throw it back into his dish? Now that the rats have eaten the monkey’s food, the monkey is demanding that you create a rat-proof food dish that keeps his treats safe. Or even better, a clever but safe lab rat catcher could put those rats back in the science lab once and for all! Experiment with kinetic and potential energy, as well as simple machines like levers, planes, and pulleys.
What’s the Big Idea? ::: Drip-Painting with Pollock
Famous modern abstract artists are visiting the Wonder Kids art studio to help YOU make some great art projects! Drip-paint with Jackson Pollock from right inside your giant floor painting. Create a colorful paper cut-out collage with Henri Matisse. Alexander Calder will teach how to make mobiles that float in space, and Pablo Picasso, who paints interesting faces, will demonstrate different facial expressions with clay. Learn to paint with some of the world’s greatest abstract artists, and then find your own abstract style.

MONSTER CARS & CASTLE MYSTERY
Monster Cars ::: The Great Race
Put your race car to the test in the “Great Race”, and drive from New York to Paris (in the Wonder Kids science lab) without modern highways or gas stations! Will you get the best results with a rubber band car, a pinewood derby racer, or a balloon car? Test your models on the track with “pouf ball drivers.” Then decide which car to enter in the great camp-wide race on Friday! Learn about axles, wheels, speed, acceleration, friction and air resistance.
Castle Mystery ::: The Queen’s Art Festival
Hear ye! Hear ye! Royal art patron Queen LaQueta has invited the Wonder Kids’ summer campers to her first ever royal art festival! You will create works of art that represent yourself in the festival. Make your very own crest, or coat of arms, and put it on a shield. Create mythical beast puppets with moveable arms and legs, such as dragons, unicorns or griffins. Design and build a mosaic tile, and many other fine artworks for this royal event. A special prize goes to those who solve the queen’s art riddle!

ROBOTICS & SUN PAINTING! (EXPRESSIONISM)
Robotics ::: Lego Mindstorms Robotic Inventions
The robots have landed! You and your team will design and build your Lego Mindstorms robots to catch the aliens (ping pong balls) and put them back into their space ships (cups)! Extra points will be awarded for lifting aliens into the clouds (cotton balls) for a quick return to their planet! Learn about gears, robotics software (with very simple visual click-and-drag commands) and basic engineering principles. All robotics teams work together on Friday to send those aliens home!
Sun Painting ::: Color Swoosh with Van Gogh
Fly through a starry night with van Gogh to his art studio in Paris! Van Gogh will teach you how to make moody skies with lively lines using a “color swoosh” technique, and then introduce you to some of the greatest Expressionist painters. Create a clay sculpture that expresses a strong feeling or emotion with Willem de Kooning. “Mask Believe” with Ernest Ludwig Kirchner, and make colorful, funny-face papier mache masks. Enjoy your stay with these “emotional” artists, and make art that shows feelings which are hard to put into words.
