Campers brainstormed, story boarded, scripted, directed and acted in five delightful short films this week! Kids of all ages also edited video footage in the Windows Movie Maker Program. After viewing their movie clips with the entire McLean Summer Program on Friday, our actors and directors walked down the red carpet to receive Academy Awards for their unique contributions.
During the week, campers also learned about the science behind movie-making. They created flip books and spinning thaumatropes to illustrate the principle of the “persistence of vision.” How many still images must our eyes see in one second in order to give the illusion of motion? 12! Although most animated films today (like Shrek) use 30 images per second. Try your child’s spinning thaumatrope to see how this works.
Campers also created movie posters and animations using Adobe Image Ready. Camper movies will be edited and mailed home by September 15. Then it’s Lights! Camera! Laughter!
